Criteria of Newsworthiness

1.  Identify, define, and give an example of the 6 criteria of newsworthiness.

Criteria 1: Unusualness
Definition: news that is different , the unusual and out of the ordinary
Example; airplane crashing

Criteria 2: Significance
Definition: Important events, one that effects many people.
Example: wars

Criteria 3: Timeliness
Definition: news that is talked about it is happening at the moments not old news which is history.
Example: North Korea threats

Criteria 4: Proximity
Definition: wanting to know the nearby events
Example: the new state tax law

Criteria 5: Prominence
Definition: when well known people, building, or places are involved.
Example: when a movies star is arrested

Criteria 6: Human interest
Definition: Stories about ordinary people or animal, humorous or dramatic stories, heartwarming or heart wrenching stories
Example: a minister who runs a drop-in center for troubled teenagers

2. On page 23 it discusses the differences between print journalism and broadcast journlism.  Please describe 3 ways they are different and explain. 
With print journalism readers can be the own editor picking what they want to read about. For broadcast journalism people can view the stories and really look see the store. Also another difference is that people can know about the events that is happening within minutes in broadcast journalism.


3.  List all the criteria the story we watched at the beginning of class fits under and why.
This story is Significance and Proximity because with was about the snow that was going on that was effecting and people want to know about it.

4.  List all the criteria the 2nd story we watched fits under and why.
it was heart warming story and it was out of the ordinary story which fits the of unusual and human interest criteria because the dogs were either blind or deaf and talk about animals.
5.  List all the criteria the 3rd story we watched fits under and why.
This story fits prominence and timeless because the story talks about famous people and the movies that have won awards.
